Hip Rock Magazine Staff

The staff of Hip Rock Magazine is pretty small.  The demand for Hip Rock Magazine's services and brilliance is very high.  Although they have had several volunteers in the past it's just two people now. Two people very dedicated to the dreams of many. A rare quality indeed!  Meet them now!

Daniel C. Morrison - Founder/CEO

Resides in Louisville/Elizabethtown, KY

3 favorite major artists: Breaking Benjamin, Alice in Chains, Jay-Z. But crap tons more!

3 favorite Independent artists: 3 Quarters Dead, Like A Storm, Tech N9ne but again, crap tons more!

2 odd likes: muppet movies and licking scented candles. Why don't they taste like they smell?

Daniel has been a writer since high school, having novels published but a lack of funding to promote it.  He is also a songwriter having won online music awards with still facing the promotional dilemma.  Never could he find someone genuinely interested in just helping him out. Everyone seemed to always want something. Therefore, he decided to just be the guy he was looking for and help others instead of himself. That's when life headed into a better direction. Sure, he still finds that negative quality in people today but it's much less than people think.

As a self starter, he took his compassion for dreams and bold sense of humor and began to just interview and highlight paranormal groups and writers on his Myspace page while promoting his short ghost story, "Conductor O'Shay". Eventually, he requested interviews with musical artists and soon was picked up by Acoustic Alternative Radio to run their sister site.  Being one of the top internet radio stations in the world this was awesome!  Unfortunately, poor communication between AA Radio and an imbalance of professionalism turned Daniel away eventually.  Before that happened though, Alternative Revolt Magazine happened.

Alternative Revolt Magazine began a year after the AA Radio began.  Daniel quickly became a favorite in the music scene, impressing Labels, Artists, and PR companies with his professionalism and sense of humor. His name and AR Magazine was quiet talk among big names in the scene.  By the second issue he scored interviews with Kittie and by the third issue he was interviewing bands like Sick Puppies. Huge bands.  The trend continued with other big names such as Avril Lavigne, Disturbed, Korn, Tech N9ne and many more.  Being invited to exclusive music video previews by 30 Seconds To Mars, hanging on tour busses with Tech N9ne and Story of the Year, just to name a few, and being invited to special "members only events" such as Linkin Park and Shinedown, things were good.

AR Magazine started out as just two people, the Founder who did the web design and layouts and Daniel doing everything else. Eventually, Daniel had needed assistance. By the 5th issue some others joined.  Thanks largely to Daniel's work ethic and likeability, AR Magazine received over 1 million visitors by their one year anniversary where they got an interview with Avril Lavigne.  Running podcasts, contacting all the labels and PR and doing 90% of the interviews was taxing but rewarding.

However, as artists are well aware, there wasn't really any money coming in.  Due to a lack of professionalism from the staff and Founder as well as a disagreement about the sales that started trickling in, Daniel eventually left and took a break.

Enter: Hip Rock Magazine.  In August of 2012 Hip Rock Magazine debuted with Tech N9ne as the cover story. Tech N9ne supported Hip Rock Magazine by doing an exclusive video announcement of his interview. Sweet!  There, Daniel continued to help Independent Artists get exposure as well as giving Major Artists memorable, funny and unique interviews.  It's what everyone craved.

There have been ups and downs though including computer malfunctions, a period of financial hardship and even a house fire. But you can't keep a winner down!  Hip Rock Magazine is here to stay!

Daniel had put on benefit concerts, a unique paranormal investigation utilizing music, runs an online magazine for the Louisville and surrounding areas and is pursuing the optimistic points of view on life.  As of 2015 Hip Rock Magazine is focusing mostly on just constructive album reviews allowing Independent Artists to have a professional editorial piece for their press kits, something most other magazine entities don't do.  The One Single Dare campaign, started in 2014, started out well in hype but the majority of artists at its infancy would not participate in the video segment thereby putting it on hold.  Not to worry though, life is all about change, evolution and continuation and Daniel enjoys all the excitement that such brings.

Daniel currently resides in Louisville/Elizabethtown, KY. He still writes books and music and enjoys giving advice, especially advice on how he turned some of his negative beliefs about life around.  He is even a Stage Production actor in the underground scene.  The guy is versatile and great at what he does!  He enjoys life one beautiful story and song at a time!

Brenda M. Atencio - Staff Writer, Reviewer, Artist

Resides in Ohkay Owingeh, New Mexico

2 favorite major artists: Akon / Nicki Minaj (That was a tough one to break down)

2 favorite Independent artists: Can't say I have a favorite when it comes to Independents.

Brenda could be considered the VP of the magazine.  She is incredibly talented in her music, ethics and compassion for dreamers.  As a struggling artist she knows all too well the hardships that this lifestlye can bring.  Fortunately, she also knows how dedication and passion can reap great rewards.  Putting on her own successful tours, writing and recording music and having the will and intelligence to work and invest money in her craft sets her high on the path to success.

She has been doing music for years, kicking off in a positive direction after using music to help cope with the loss of loved ones in her family.  She currently has a great job that affords her the ability to invest and pursue music. Early on she knew what it would take to do it and do it right.

Brenda also helps charity causes, supports local and independent musicians and has all the qualities of a best friend!
